VGC 2015 Ruleset

The VGC 2015 season was the first format played using Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Starting January 1, 2015, the format shifted from the one used during the 2014 season that only allowed Pokémon available in the Kalos region to a format that allowed Pokémon in the Hoenn region as well as the entire National Pokédex.

Before January 2015, this was the following major ruleset.
  • Matches are played on Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.
  • Only Pokémon caught or obtained in the Kalos Region and its Pokédex are allowed.
  • The following Pokémon are banned: Mewtwo, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde, and Diancie.
After January 2015, this was the following major ruleset.
  • Matches are played on Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire.
  • Players may only use Pokémon with items and moves obtained in Pokémon X, Pokémon Y, Pokémon Omega Ruby, and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire
  • The following Pokémon are banned: Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde, and Diancie.
