The biggest event of the year, the 2012 Pokémon World Championships took place on August 10-12, 2012 as 40 qualified players competed in Waikoloa Village, Hawaii! This tournament used a ruleset where players were only allowed to use Pokémon available in the National Pokédex.
In the end, Ray Rizzo won his 3rd consecutive World Championships with his powerful Cresselia that could use Swagger to give Metagross a power boost while not confusing it thanks to Metagross' Lum Berry. Alongside other meta-defining Pokémon such as Rotom-Wash, Tyranitar, Garchomp, and Hydreigon, Ray's team was a force to reckon with.
