For the VGC 2022 season, the first-ever National Championship took place in Malaysia to decide this region's representatives at the 2022 World Championships. Capped at 128 entrants, players competed in an online qualifier where they faced off in 7 best-of-one Swiss Rounds with open teamsheets on May 28, 2022.
The top 8 players advanced to a live event in Kuala Lumpur on June 11, 2022 where matches until the Finals would be best-of-three and the Finals was played in a best-of-five match. The top 8 players competed in a single-elimination bracket where the top 4 players received a Day 1 invite and the eventual winner earned both a Day 2 invite and a travel award to the World Championships.
